Offer Description
This position is part of the COCOSO MSCA Industrial Doctoral Network - Co-construction in the field of social welfare. PhD contracts start on 1. September 2025 and run for 36 months.
Doctoral candidate12 (DC12) will be part of work package 4 (WP4): Enhance the Potential of Digital Tools for Participation
1. Objectives:
This project will explore the new phenomenon of digital volunteerism and fill the gap in the existing knowledge and scarce empirical evidence on digital volunteering projects. It will use exploratory approach such as mapping and initial analysis of digitally driven, shared, co-constructed voluntary actions aimed at helping people in need. Data collection will include interviews, observations, case studies, to identify forms and characteristics of the emerging digital voluntary practices and will:
- study current innovations in digital volunteerism and research impacts in different spheres related to helping others: empathetic approach, relationship building, digital exclusion, gender trends.
- explore the specificities of civil society actors in Poland that do not have broad attention in voluntary sector studies but are crucial in the light of new forms of co-creation of public services.
- case study of 3 e-volunteering initiatives including interviews with volunteers, volunteer coordinators, NPOs managers, and representatives of public authorities.
- identify new forms of challenges and barriers to digital social inclusion and how to overcome them.
- explore how the knowledge is created, used and shared within the digital volunteering space.
- map and widely disseminate the innovative, digital forms of volunteering that involves participation and co-construction of variety of voluntary actions.

- PhD thesis
- Submission of one journal article
Secondment: 18 months at Good Network Foundation, Warsaw, Poland, https://dobrasiec.org/en/. The secondment will provide a knowledge on digital volunteerism and will give access to the digital volunteering platform(s) and possibilities to contact members of the network.

Additional Information
Salary is defined according to Warsaw University Regulations and Polish employment law. The salary will be subject to taxation and social insurance contributions.
- Gross salary amounts 1 965,00 Euro/month, plus mobility allowance 600 Euro/month, plus family allowance 660 Euro/month (if applicable)

1. MSCA eligibility criteria:
- The selected candidate must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies,etc.) in Poland for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their start of recruitment date (start of employment contract).
- The candidate must not hold a PhD.
2. Required eligibility:
Master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the PhD project, which could include: digital studies, educational sciences, sociology, psychology, NGO sector management and development, social work, social policy, community development, gender studies.
3. Desirable eligibility requirements:
- Strong thematic knowledge of digital tools, digital participation or digital platforms
- Professional or research experience in digital participation (digital inclusion and exclusion), gender and cross-generation gaps.
- Familiarity with social inclusion/exclusion theories and practice
4. Compulsory language requirements :
- English: excellent written and spoken skills (Master’s degree in English language or certificate equivalent to Level B2 in the CEFR framework, for example IELTS 6.5 in speaking and writing)
5. Desirable language requirements: Polish: good spoken and reading skills, due to the research taking place in Poland (Polish language course is available at the University).
